Wabasha Area Food Share Challenge

As more households seek their assistance and the cost of keeping pantry shelves stocked continues to climb, the Wabasha Area Food Share is looking to their community for support as they face their greatest demand to date.

The local food pantry recorded 642 visits in June— the highest monthly total in its history—compared with 404 visits in January.

The Wabasha County Herald reports to help meet the growing need, Wabasha Area Food Share is participating in the 17th annual Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Summer Challenge.

This fundraising challenge serves to encourage collaboration in communities across Minnesota to combat hunger during these summer months—when donations often decrease as demand increases.

Funds raised during the challenge are eligible for matching grant dollars through Open Your Heart, allowing donations to have an even greater impact.

The Wabasha Area Food Share is open 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays. Home delivery is also available for individuals who are unable to visit during regular pantry hours.
