After decades of planning and collaboration, the Sturgeon Lake Road project on Prairie Island is complete.
This project eliminated one of Minnesota's most dangerous railroad crossings.
Now, a new overpass carries traffic over a railway, whose trains used to regularly block the only avenue in and out of the Prairie Island Indian Community.
This project also constructed a new underpass to improve access to tribal lands, including the Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
The Minnesota State Legislature funded construction.
An official ribbon cutting near the overpass will take place on Thursday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m
