The Timberwolves had a big third quarter during their 109-105 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at Target Center. The Wolves led by just one at halftime before outscoring the Clippers 35-23 in the third. Minnesota had a 17 point lead in the fourth before the Clippers cut the deficit to three in the waning moments. Rudy Gobert hit four out of four free throws to seal the win. Gobert had 15 points, 18 rebounds, and four blocks, while Anthony Edwards pouted in 33 points. Minnesota has won three of four and leads the Western Conference at 28-and-11. The Wolves visit the Pistons on Wednesday.
The Wild were crushed by the Arizona Coyotes 6-0 at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday. Minnesota outshot the Coyotes 38-33 but couldn't get the puck past Connor Ingram. Filip Gustavsson saved just 13 of the 18 shots that he faced in his return from injured reserve before he was pulled. The Wild remain in seventh place in the Central Division with 39 points and a 17-20-and-5 record. Minnesota hosts the Islanders tonight.
The Twins are adding some organizational depth to their pitching staff. The team signed right-handed reliever Hobie Harris to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. Harris will be paid 750-thousand if he makes the 40-man roster. Harris appeared in 16 games with the Nationals last season, and he had a 5.12 ERA with nine strikeouts and 13 walks in 19-and-a-third innings.
The Minnesota Gophers had their seven-game winning streak snapped with a 74-62 loss against Indiana at Assembly Hall on Friday. The Gophers were down ten at halftime and never really got back into the game during the second half. Pharrel Payne led the team with 17 points off the bench. Minnesota dropped to 12-and-4 overall and 3-and-2 in the Big Ten. The Gophers host Iowa tonight.
Blowouts were on the menu for Wild Card weekend in the NFL. The lopsided victories started on Saturday when the Texans throttled the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in Houston, while the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs thumped the Miami Dolphins 26-7 at Arrowhead Stadium. However, the biggest surprise came on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers marched into Arlington and embarrassed the Dallas Cowboys 48-32. The nightcap featured a more competitive game where the Detroit Lions edged the Los Angeles Rams 24-23 at Ford Field.
A pair of Monday games will put a bow on the Wild Card round.
The Pittsburgh Steelers battle the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park in a game that was postponed over the weekend due to snow. Monday Night Football features a showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
