The Twins gave up six runs in the bottom of the third inning during an 11-5 loss to the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Kenta Maeda pitched two innings during the rubber match, but he exited after getting hit in the leg with a line drive during the final out of the second inning. Maeda was charged with the loss after giving up one run in the first, but Emilio Pagan gave up the most damage, surrendering six runs in an inning and two-thirds. Willi Castro hit a home run in the losing effort. Minnesota remains in first place in the AL Central at 11-and-8. Tyler Mahle starts for the Twins against the Nationals at Target Field tonight. The Wild will try to take a 2-1 series lead when they host the Dallas Stars in Game Three of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at the Xcel Energy Center tonight. The Wild are coming off a 7-3 loss to the Stars on Wednesday after a 3-2 double overtime victory on Monday. The best-of-seven series is tied at a game apiece.
The Timberwolves look for their first win in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs when they host the Denver Nuggets in Game Three at the Target Center tonight. The Wolves were blown out 109-80 in Game One, but they made it close during a 122-113 loss in Game Two on Wednesday. Minnesota trails in the best-of-seven series two games to none.
The Bucks are hoping to take a lead in their opening round playoff series against the Heat. The Deer are in Miami tomorrow night for Game Three. Milwaukee is coming off a big victory in Game Two to even the best-of-seven series at a game apiece. Brook Lopez led the team in scoring as Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the game with a back contusion. He's considered day-to-day and his status for tomorrow night's showdown is uncertain.
Boston Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon is this season's Sixth Man of the Year. The league announced the award on Thursday, and Brogdon took the top spot with 60 first-place votes. The 30-year-old finished ahead of runner-up Immanuel Quickley of the New York Knicks and third-place finisher Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks in the voting. Brogdon averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game during the regular season.
The Packers and Jets are still at an impasse with the Aaron Rodgers trade. Brain Costello with the New York Post says the sticking point in negotiations is still Green Bay's demand for the Jets' first round pick in next week's draft. He says New York is balking at offering the unconditional pick for the Super Bowl winning quarterback, who could retire after just one season. Round one of the draft takes place next Thursday.
The Brewers are back on the diamond in prime time tonight. The team opens a three-game series with the Red Sox in Milwaukee. The Brewers are coming off a series sweep of the Mariners and improved to 14-and-5 on the season. The team is first in the NL Central. Freddy Peralta gets the start while Boston counters with Nick Pivetta.
