RWPS Levy Request Approved

The Red Wing School Board Tuesday approved a resolution to place a referendum that includes facilities improvement bond and a capital projects levy on the Nov. 3, 2026 election ballot.

The total amount of the levy would be $2,381,250.  

The ballot will include one referendum question with two related components.

The first would authorize a capital bond for improvements at Sunnyside Elementary. The second would establish a capital projects levy to support ongoing investments in facilities, curriculum, and technology.

Together, the proposal is estimated to have a tax impact of approximately $9 per month for a median-value home in the district.

If approved, the proposal would:

●     Modernize and renovate Sunnyside Elementary School, including creating dedicated pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms and improving spaces for special education, Head Start, and student support services.

●     Replace and upgrade aging building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, windows, restrooms, and accessibility features.

●     Update furniture, fixtures, finishes, and equipment throughout the building.

●     Construct a new early childhood playground.

●     Invest in district technology, including computers, networks, software, technology infrastructure, and instructional technology.

●     Provide updated curriculum materials, textbooks, and other educational resources.

●     Support ongoing facility, technology, and equipment needs to help maintain ADA accessible, safe, secure, and effective learning environments.
