In an email to members Tuesday, Glen Gunderson, president of YMCA of the North, announced the Rochester YMCA is closing its doors by the end of January.
According to the email, the current Rochester Y facility is oversized and operationally inefficient and has distracted from the Y’s ability to fully respond to community needs.
The last day at the Y fitness and wellbeing center location is January 14 with the Rochester Y building closing January 31.
Officials cited declining membership, the COVID pandemic, and the condition of the 58-year old facility, as the reasons for closing the building.
