The Red Wing School Board met Monday night in special session and voted 5 to 2 to require all students, employees and others to wear mask indoors or in a school or contracted vehicle.
Board member Anna Ostendorf says health experts are saying all kids should be masked indoors at school.
Board member Jennifer Tift agreed with the majority, saying her vote is meant to keep students safe.
Board Chair Pam Roe said she supports letting parents decide the issue, citing an example of one student no longer looking forward to attending school in person.
Roe and Jim Bryant voted no on the mask mandate, which goes into effect on August 30th.
The vote also means everyone will be encouraged but not required to mask up outdoors as long as they are not in sustained contact with others.
