Red Wing Public Schools will ask voters to renew the existing operating levy for an additional seven years.
If the referendum passes on November 8th, the levy will provide operating funds through the 2030-2031 academic year.
The board considered several factors in voting to hold the renewal referendum.
The property tax impact would be flat. This referendum is strictly a request to renew the $1,650 per pupil unit that voters overwhelmingly passed in 2018.
A seven-year operating levy would provide local schools with some stability, assist in long-term budgeting and better enable future boards to ensure quality public education.
Board members noted that renewing or extending the $1,650 per pupil will not resolve all financial challenges.
According to Business Manager Jackie Paradis, budget cuts will continue to be necessary because of declining enrollment as well as state aid payments not keeping pace with inflation.
