Red Wing Preliminary Levy

ree

The Red Wing City Council Monday night approved the 2026 preliminary levy in a 5-0 vote, but that doesn't mean budget discussions are over.

The preliminary levy sets the maximum amount the final levy could be.

For now, that amount is set at a 4.99% increase over 2025.

Under that preliminary proposal, the average-value home in Red Wing would see a $50 annual decrease in property taxes.

That's possible because the share of the tax levy that residential properties pay is set to be lower than last year (and the share that public utility properties pay is set to increase).

Over the next few weeks, City Council and City staff will keep refining the budget, which will be voted on in December.

You can email your City Council members and the Mayor with your ideas.

Community members are invited to join in on the discussion when it resumes on November 3 at the next budget workshop.
