Red Wing Police Department ICE

Following last week’s fatal shooting of a woman by a Federal ICE Agent in Minneapolis, the Red Wing Police Department posted on the City’s website, https://www.redwingmn.gov/, exactly what they can and cannot do when it comes to Federal law enforcement issues.

Police Chief, Nick Sather, says ICE personel were in Red Wing last week but they get no advance warning or heads-up when Federal Officers come to town.

Sather says the Police Department has no role in immigration  enforcement.

Sather says the Police Department is not concerned with who may or may not have a legal status to be in the country living in town because they are contributing to the community.

He says they have received emails and calls from residents asking them to arrest ICE agents, which they have no jurisdiction to do.
