The Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a residential structure fire in the 900 Block of West Third Street in Red Wing Tuesday at 3:24 am.
Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within four minutes of receiving the call and a primary search of the building was completed and the fire was extinguished approximately 30 minutes after arrival.
There was moderate fire damage to the attic area and moderate smoke damage throughout the first and second floors of the building. The building was left uninhabitable.
There were no injuries.
The cause of the fire, which originated in the attic, was caused by a lightning strike.
A total of 20 firefighters worked at the scene for more than two hours.
Red Wing Police Department, Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers, Goodhue Fire Department, and Ellsworth Fire Department assisted on scene. Ellsworth Ambulance and Meisville Fire Department provided station coverage.
