The Red Wing Fire Department received a call Tuesday at 10:35 pm reporting a residential structure fire in the 400 block of East 5th Street.
One patient on scene was evaluated by paramedics but was not admitted to the hospital.
Firefighter/paramedics were on the scene within 2 minutes of receiving the call and the primary search of the building was completed and the fire was extinguished approximately 10 minutes after arrival.
There was fire damage to the first floor apartment and the fire was contained to the kitchen area. There is smoke damage to the fire unit as well as the upstairs unit.
The Red Cross provided housing assistance for the residents of both units. The cause of the fire, which originated in the kitchen, is still under investigation.
