A Welch woman who was working for the City of Red Wing in the financial department has been sentenced in Goodhue County District Court last week after stealing more than $30,000 from the city and pleading to a felony charge of theft by swindle.
39-year old Kaleen Gustafson was sentenced to pay $500 fine, pay restitution of just over $29,500, and 100 hours of community service.
Gustafson used several ways to embezzle the funds, including forging signatures and checks. Some of the money was sent to her own photography business.
Gustafson was hired in March 2022 and was fired in February 2023.
