Red Wing Dog Park Suggestions

Red Wing's temporary dog park at the upper Athletic Field's ice rinks is officially open for summer.

But if you're someone who envisions a bigger, better dog park for Red Wing, here is your chance to help lead the effort.

At its workshop last Tuesday night, City Council members discussed the issue and are now asking the public if there is enough interest from residents to lead a grassroots effort that would include local fundraising.

Almost 500 people submitted input and ideas in last summer's survey.

The Council did identifiy two preferred sites.

Bench Street South City Owned Vacant Property. Acquired in 2012 from S.B. Foot Tanning Company, this 9.73-acre parcel is currently vacant and contains two defunct storage tanks along the west property line.

The second site is Spring Creek Park. This park is located in Burnside off of Spring Creek Road.

These locations are just suggestions and the City wants the community’s feedback and suggestions on other locations that might work.

If you would like to lead or participate in a community dog-park planning group, email Michelle Leise at the City, and she will help connect residents and answer questions.
