The Plainview Area History Center recently received a remarkable collection of Civil War letters from the descendants of Alvin Engle, a local soldier who served during the war.
Written by various family members while Alvin was away, these letters offer a rare, personal look into daily life, family responsibilities, and community history during the 1860s, according to the Plainview News.
The Engle family donated these letters so they may be preserved for future generations, and PAHC has received permission to share the letters with the Plainview News.
They are available to read in the February 5th edition of the Plainview News.
