The Pine Island City Council last week unanimously approved a more than $36 million tax abatement and a business subsidy for a data center project during its special meeting.
Despite objections and concerns made by residents during the meeting, the city plans to build the data center near Highway 52 and 500th Street.
It’s expected to create 38 full-time permanent jobs.
According to their website, Project Skyway community benefits include over $20 million dollars in road and utility upgrades, 2.5 miles of public water main and 0.5 miles of public sewer main, 1 mile of gravel road upgraded to paved city road and 18.5 acres dedicated to stormwater treatment, all paid for by the developer, Ryan Companies.
