Water levels continue to climb on the Mississippi River with major flooding occurring in both directions of Red Wing, but there is a little good news by the end of the week in some locations.
According to the National Weather Service, the river at Lock and Dam 2 at Hastings is at 18.6 ft Monday and is expected to rise to 19.3 by Friday.
Red Wing’s measurement stands at 16.48 ft and is forecast to crest at 16.8 feet by Wednesday and hold steady through Friday before dropping to 16 ft by Sunday.
The river at Lake City is 18.97 ft, and will rise to 19.5 ft. Tuesday and Wednesday before slowly dropping to 18.3 ft by Sunday. The City of Lake City started removing trailers off of city point near Ohuta Park on Saturday due to flooding. Cones and barricades are up.
Wabasha is experiencing major flooding as well at 16.7 ft, and it’s expected to crest Tuesday and Wednesday and then fall about 6 inches by Friday.
The Flood Warning continues for the Mississippi River at Hastings, Red Wing, Lake City and Wabasha until further notice.
