Mighty Mississippi Cleanup Challenge

Greg Taylor

Goodhue County and the City of Red Wing have issued a joint challenge to every Minnesota county, city, and watershed district along the Mississippi River.

City Council member Becky Norton says the challenge is simple: organize a local event to help clean the Mississippi between April 15 and May 15.

Goodhue County Commissioner Linda Flanders says what we do here in Minnesota directly impacts the remaining 1,700 miles of the river.

Two simultaneous events will be held locally on Saturday, April 22 from 9 am – 11 am, at Colvill Park and at Sturgeon Lake Road and County Road 18. All are welcome at both locations. (rain/flood date is May 20)

Trash bags are provided, but please bring gloves and closed toed shoes.

Over the years, pollution has caused the Mississippi River to be listed as the 6th most endangered river in the U.S.
