Merchants Bank customers have reported an uptick in a specific scam recently.
You receive a phone call or text message from a scammer posing as a representative of Merchants Bank. The message from the scammer tells you that your debit card is locked and you'll need to call a number back and verify debit card, account or transaction information to unlock your card.
The call or text may feel legitimate, but it’s not.
Remember that Merchants Bank will never ask you to provide your debit or credit card number and expiration date and CVV code to verify possible fraud on your card account.
If you are asked to do this, it is a scam. Do not respond and call your branch to check the current status of your debit card.
