Memorial Highway Sign Colonel Colvill

On Thursday, Oct. 29th from 6-8 pm the community is invited to a reception and brief ceremony at the Colvill Park Courtyard building, 515 Nymphara Lane, Red Wing, to dedicate a new Memorial Highway sign installed in honor of Colonel William Colvill.
There will be a short program at 6:30 pm and light refreshments will be served.
The sign is on Highway 19, west of the intersection of Highway 19 & 61, just north of Red Wing.
Colvill commanded the First Minnesota Infantry during the American Civil War and led their famous charge at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 2, 1863.
The Colvill Memorial Highway signs were originally authorized in 1931, and there have been two previous versions of them, located at various places on Highway 19, from Red Wing to Gaylord, Minnesota.
The current sign is the first effort in many years to bring back these still officially authorized signs in honor of Colvill and Minnesota soldiers.
The Third Minnesota Infantry Civil War reenactors sponsored this sign project.
The Third Minnesota will be in period dress to greet our Veterans, active Military, the Public, and other Civil War reenacting groups who wish to join them.
