Taylor Heise wins the Kaz!
Taylor Heise won the Patty Kazmeier award Saturday as the top player in women's college hockey for the 2021-22 season.
Heise is a Lake City native who went on to play six years of varsity hockey for Red Wing. She helped the Wingers make four state tournament appearances during her six years with the program and won the Ms. Minnesota Hockey Award as the top girls high school hockey player in 2018. She also was on the U18 National Women's team that won three titles during her sophomore, junior and senior years in high school.
Heise senior season with the Gophers saw here rack up 66 points on 29 goals and 37 assists as the nation's leading scorer. The Gophers were 29-9-1 this season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament but fell 2-1 to UMD in the quarterfinals.
Heise plans to return for a fifth year of eligibility next year which was granted due to last years Covid-19 shortened season.
Heise joins Krissy Wendell (2005) and Amanda Kessel (2013) as the Gophers women's hockey players to win the Patty Kazmeier award.
