Red Wing Aces 4 Stewartville-Racine Sharks 0-Red Wing Aces pitcher Drew Ball was nearly perfect Sunday in their win over the Sharks in the playoff matchup at the Red Wing Athletic Field.

Ball tossed a complete game one hitter, facing one batter over the minimum, striking out 16 Sharks with no walks. The only Sharks batter to reach base was Bo Boettcher, who reached on a scratch single that went about 55 feet down the first base line and stayed fair by just a few inches.

The Aces scored three runs in the first inning off of tough Sharks pitcher Tyler Schmitz when Adam Thygesen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run and Nick Azar followed with a two run single. The only other run for the Aces came in the second inning when Brodie Smith reached on an error and scored on a scorching RBI double to the right field corner by Zach Harding.

The Aces began the weekend Saturday with a 7-1 win over Dodge County. Aaron Johnson allowed just one run on five hits through eighth innings. Adam Thygesen, Lou DeJong and Zach Harding knocked in two runs apiece.

The Aces will face the Austin Greyhounds in a winner bracket game of the Class B District 2 playoffs Saturday 1pm at the Red Wing Athletic Field. The game will be broadcast on KWNG 106 as the Vikings play their pre-season opener Saturday afternoon on KCUE.
