Amateur Baseball:
The Red Wing Aces earned a first round bye in the Class C State Amateur Baseball Tournament by winning 9-2 last Friday night over Cannon Falls in the Region 5C championship game at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Watkins and Pierz will meet Saturday, August 20th in Faribault with the winner facing the Aces on Friday, August 26th at 7:30pm at Memorial Park in Dundas on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE/KCUE 99FM and on-line at www.kcueradio.com.
Cannon Falls opens tourney play against Buckman on August 20th at 7pm in Faribault and Wanamingo starts play in the tourney August 21st against Raymond at 4:30pm in Faribault.
In Class B, Miesville hosts Prior Lake at 7:30pm on Friday while Dundas hosts Eagan at 4:30pm on Sunday.
State championships in Class B and C will be crowned on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th.
Women's Hockey:
Lake City native and former Wingers star Taylor Heise is one of six Minnesota Gophers named to the US Women's National Team that will compete in the 2022 IIHF Women's World Championship in Denmark.
The tourney runs August 25-September 4 and Team USA opens play against Japan on August 25.
Heise, who won the Patty Kazmaier Award last season as the top player in women's college hockey, returns in the fall for her final year with the Golden Gophers.
