Red Wing Aces 5 Hampton 2-The Aces racked up their fifth straight win as they knocked off the Cardinals at The Athletic Field.

The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Aces scored three runs. Brodie Gibart and Zach Harding singled and Dixon Irwin walked to load the bases with nobody out. Adam Thygesen popped out to second base bit Nick Azar walked with the bases loaded to put the Aces on the board. Josh Thygesen followed with a bloop RBI single and another run scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Tyler Rodgers.

Red Wing added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Reid Hartmann walked, stole second and third base and then scored on a single by Brodie Gibart. Gibart later scored on a wild pitch.

Colter Hegge, who just graduated from Lake City High School a few weeks ago, has made an immediate impact since joining the Aces earlier this week. Hegge played his first game with the Aces Tuesday against North St. Paul and had an RBI single in his first at bat and played a solid game in right field. Last night he started on the mound and picked up the win. Hegge pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while recording nine strikeouts.

Johan Zorn pitched the seventh and eighth innings for the Aces. Zorn pitched a scoreless seventh inning but gave up two walks and a two run double to the Cardinals Tanner Rezny in the eighth inning. Zorn pitched out of further trouble by retiring the final two batters in the eighth. Reid Hartmann worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.

The Aces (12-6) host their rivals the Miesville Mudhens (15-2) in their July 4th matchup at The Athletic Field. The Mudhens are the two time defending State Class A champions and beat the Aces 3-0 in Miesville on Memorial Day.

Saturday's game is at 2pm with the pre-game show at 1:45pm on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE/KCUE 99FM and www.kcueradio.com with Jack Colwell.
