A Lake City group that helps fill the need of children's food insecurity when they aren’t in school is looking for volunteers and donors.
Al Thompson, Coordinator of Lake City Packing for the Weekend food program, says the program, a partnership between United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha, and Pierce Counties, United Methodist Church in Lake City, and the Lake City School District, has been a big success in the past.
Thompson says the need has grown this year and they are asking for assistance.
Thompson says volunteers and donations are badly needed and any help would be appreciated. Thompson says it takes about $250 annually to sponsor a child so the goal is to raise $10,000 for the school year.
Volunteers can either help pack or deliver food once a month. You can contact Thompson by phone at 507-649-7682 or by email at pepinsailor@gmail.com.
