Lake City Community Education was recently awarded a $50,000 grant.
The school has announced the money will fund a new staff position called the ‘Social Emotional Support Coach.
School staff says the new roll will support social and emotional learning for elementary students.
The program is designed for preschool students, ages three and four.
Tim Penny, President and CEO Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF), whose 20-county region includes Goodhue, and Wabasha Counties, says they awarded the grant through the Otto Bremer Trust and its Community Responsive Fund.

Besides funding for an Early Education Teacher, the grant will also be used for purchasing SEL curriculum, enhancing parent communication, building 1:1 relationships and more.
