Developers may now submit housing proposals to the Red Wing Port Authority for the Jefferson School site.
Ideas must follow guidelines approved by the City Council.
That means proposals must be limited to 24 housing units per acre (52 total) and any additional structure must be limited to a maximum of three stories.
Proposals will also score higher if they save the historic school building and include a playground and/or open space for the public.
The school district still owns the site, but the Port Authority is leading the search for developers and aims to identify one by fall.
Here's the planned timeline:
July 31: Letters of interest due from developers
September 10: Full responses due from developers
October 6: Selection of preferred developer
October 31: Port Authority moves forward with property purchase
