Jake’s Field of Dreams Harvest

Jake’s Field of Dreams has been harvested, and once again it’s a great reminder of what can happen when a community comes together.

The St. Elizabeth’s Field of Dreams is an annual tradition of farmers in the Wabasha area who plant and harvest a field in front of St. Elizabeth’s hospital and donate the crops to the hospital.

It’s been going on for over 2 decades on a 40-acre plot of land now affectionately known as Jake’s Field of Dreams.

It’s named in honor of Jake Abbott, a long-time hospital and foundation board member who worked closely with the farming community to create the Field of Dreams concept.

According to the Plainview News, this year’s crop was corn.

Harvest results included moisture ranging from 14.5 percent to 16.3 percent, 8,963.49 bushels harvested, an average of 224 bushels per acre, and a sale price of $4.07 per bushel.

In total, Jake’s Field of Dreams generated more than $36,000 this year.

The proceeds benefit St. Elizabeth’s Community Development Foundation, with 100 percent of the proceeds staying local to support the community.
