Honoring Dakota Mural Celebration

More than 200 people attended Mondays dedication of the new large-scale outdoor Honoring Dakota Project Mural in downtown Red Wing in honor of the Dakota People and Chief Red Wing.

The Honoring Dakota Project is a partnership between the Prairie Island Indian Community and Red Wing Arts, the City of Red Wing and Goodhue County.

Nicky Buck, Honoring Dakota Community Engagement Coordinator and Prairie Island Tribal member, says the project has been in the works for a couple of years.

Buck says the finished mural marks the capstone of months of connection and collaboration through the Honoring Dakota Project and it’s fulfilling to see the finished mural.

Monday’s event included a Youth Presentation, Drum Group/Blessing, gifting and remarks by Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, and a walk to the Public Library for a community meal.
