As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, an area non-profit is providing several locations and times in Winona for free and confidential depression screenings.
Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, which serves communities in 5 southeastern Minnesota counties, including Goodhue, Wabasha, and Winona, will offer drop-in screenings Thursday, October 7th at the Warming Center from 8-10 am, Sobieski Lodge from 10 am-noon and 2-4 pm, Day Center from 2-4 pm, Maplewood Activity Room from 4-6pm. There will be virtual screenings via Zoom from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm.
Thursday evening from 6-9 pm, they will be hosting a free event called “Bringing Light into Darkness”. The event is to raise awareness of the darkness that mental illness and addiction can evoke but through darkness there is a light of hope that can build resiliency and recovery.
At the event, 1,000 green lights will glow at the Levee Park Patio in Winona to represent the individuals in Minnesota who have lost their lives to suicide or substance use in 2020.
