EcoFest Foundation Inc. has announced that its planned tree-planting project along the Great River Ridge Trail from Plainview to Elgin will be postponed until spring 2026.
The delay comes after new requirements from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which oversees the trail corridor.
According to the Plainview News, it was scheduled for this fall, but the DNR has requested that its archaeology department first conduct a land survey before any additional trees are planted.
This added review process has halted the project’s timeline.
In addition, the DNR’s resource department re-evaluated EcoFest Foundation’s request to include a broader mix of native trees and shrubs.
