The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office currently has a pair of K-9 Unit officers, and it may surprise people just how much the canine partner of the duo, can do in the course of duty.
Patrol Officer, Mike Ayres, is paired with Halo, a Belgian Malinois, and Officer Ayres says they both enjoy going to schools and showing kids what they do on the job.
Halo is considered a Deputy Sheriff and has her own equipment issued by the Department and is trained in a variety of skills, including area and building searches, drug searches, and looking for missing people.
When off duty, Halo fits right in with Mike’s family and other dog.
Officer Ayres says it’s not that common for K9 officers to be female, but he says Halo got the highest test score in her class at the training facility in St. Paul.
