The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office currently has a pair of K-9 Unit officers, and it may surprise people just how much the canine partner of the duo, can do in the course of duty.
Patrol Officer, Mike Ayres, is paired with Halo, a Belgian Malinois, and Officer Ayres says she is trained in a variety of skills, including area searches, drug search's, and looking for missing people.
Officer Ayres says they often deploy Halo for building search's because she can enter a building and search it for an intruder in a fraction of the time it would take Police Officers.
The K9s are considered a Deputy Sheriff and have their own equipment issued by the Department and they have special patrol cars that are set up to ensure their safety and comfort.
