Five for Food Totals

Five for Food, an initiative of the Greater Lake City Community Foundation for the Lake City Food Shelf, has completed its ninth year with a record $45,612 in total donations.


The 2023 donations exceeded the previous record donations of $42,259 last year. Twenty-eight sponsors agreed to donate between $500 and $1,500. The sponsor funds, totaling $22,150, were pooled to match donations from the community.


Five for Food has raised over $261,000 in the past nine years, which has allowed the Lake City Food Shelf to provide nearly one million dollars in of food for those in need in the greater Lake City area.


It is the largest source of donations to the Lake City Food Shelf each year.


Five for Food sponsors in 2023 were The Greater Lake City Community Foundation, Lake City Fresh Market, Ardent Milling, Mayo Clinic Health System-Lake City, Lake City Federal Bank, Lake City Masonic Lodge, Lake City Rotary Club, Automation Services, Pat and Stephanie Murphy, Alliance Bank, Lake City Lions Club, Lake City Graphic, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s CCW, Dean and Joanne Flugstad, Lake Hits 95 Radio, Lake City Kiwanis Club, Rand and Bonnie Conway, Tom and Margie Harkins, John and Sue McElmury, Dag Knudsen and Deirdre Flesche, Shari and Bob Norberg, Steve and Kathy Hegseth, Mark Nichols, Solheid’s Tax Service, Phillip and Lori Nyberg and an three anonymous donors.


Donations from the community ranged from $5 to $1,000.
