The first tow up the Mississippi River could be happening very soon.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District’s, Jim Rand, Chief of Locks and Dams, says last week melted a lot of ice.
Rand says if then current warmer weather forecast next week holds, the first tow should be close, most likely late next week.
The Motor Vessel R. Clayton McWhorter was the first tow to pass through Lake Pepin last year and reach St. Paul, arriving March 19th.
Historically the average date in which navigation is open occurs during the third week of March.
