Ellsworth Schools Swatting Calls

On Friday, January 30th, Goodhue County Emergency Communications received multiple 911 calls from a phone configured for emergency calls only, with the originating phone number blocked.

During the calls, the caller made threats of assault and falsely reported an active shooter at a school in Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

The report prompted an immediate and coordinated response by law enforcement agencies in Ellsworth and Red Wing to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the surrounding community.

The Red Wing Police Department’s Investigative Unit was assigned to lead the investigation.

Investigators subsequently identified the caller as a juvenile, who stated the calls were made as a “prank.” Law enforcement has confirmed there is no active threat to the community.

The Red Wing Police Department reminds the public that making false emergency reports, commonly known as swatting, is a serious criminal offense that diverts emergency resources and places lives at risk.
