Elgin Proposed Emergency Services

The City of Elgin has been working on a revised plan for a proposed Emergency Services Building.

The original $4.5 million proposal was not approved by voters in 2024.

Since then, the City has reviewed the feedback received and worked to reduce the size and cost of the project.

The proposed Emergency Services Building will be on the November 2026 ballot for Elgin voters to consider.

Ballot question: Shall the City of Elgin be authorized to issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $2,500,000 to finance the acquisition and betterment of an emergency services facility in the City?

The proposed Emergency Services Building would provide a purpose-built facility for both Fire and EMS.

Combining the two departments in one facility also allows the City to share space, infrastructure, and building costs rather than maintaining two separate facilities.

The goal is to provide adequate space for emergency vehicles, equipment, storage, and department operations while improving the functionality, efficiency, and safety of the facility for the personnel who respond to emergencies in the community.
