Eisenhower Bridge of Valor New Sign

Greg Taylor

Updated: Feb 18

Visitors to Red Wing will soon be greeted by a new welcome sign as they cross the river on the Eisenhower Bridge of Valor.

Last week the City Council gave direction to move forward on the sign, which has been in the works for years.

The sign design features limestone, will be lit for nighttime viewing, and includes both the word "Welcome" and the phrase "Tanyan Yahipi," which translates from Dakota to “It’s good you are all here.”

Local philanthropic organizations are covering the majority of the cost of fabricating and installing the sign.

The Jones Family Foundation and the Red Wing Area Fund previously contributed $50,000, and last week, the City Council accepted an additional $40,000 from the Jones Family Foundation and the Albrect-Poss Foundation.

The City is responsible for the remaining $12,085, to be covered by the Municipal Arts Fund and capital project funds, and some minor in-kind work.
