Council Approves Cannabis Operation

The Red Wing City Council Monday night voted 5-2 to approve a second Cannabis Retail Operation within the City of Red Wing.

City staff reviewed the three complete applications received by the July 10th deadline and provided the Council with the eligibility list, scoring, and staff recommendation for issuance based on the application materials received.

Staff recommended and the Council approved a cannabis retail registration for Jigar Patel, DBA as Nature Creation, LLC at 3151 South Service Drive, Red Wing.

The other two applicants were Rybolt Wellness, LLC and Monday Park, LLC.

Mayor Gary Iocco responded to a question of whether or not Council should adjust their criteria to add additional retail operations by supporting the process just completed.

The granting of the one remaining registration will fulfill the city's requirements under Minnesota Statutes, which requires us to allow one licensed cannabis retail business for every 12,500 residents within the city.

The city council elected to cap the number of retail businesses at two when the original ordinance was adopted in 2024.

Your coverage of the council’s approval process was thorough and very informative. The way you broke down the community’s perspectives and regulatory considerations made the topic approachable. I came across a similar discussion on a civic engagement blog, which provided a fresh take on local business developments. Platforms such as https://gocollectiv.com/ could also play a role in helping residents stay updated and organized around these community initiatives.
