City of Red Wing Trains Quiet Zone

ree

The City of Red Wing is working to establish a whistle-free zone for trains traveling through town.

For decades, some businesses and residents have desired a “quiet zone,” which would nearly eliminate train horn noise.

Proponents say it can bolster existing businesses and attract new development.

At the November 24th City Council meeting, Council members voted to take the next step: improving the Jackson Street crossing (near the Bay Point Park roundabout) to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians.

Work may start as early as spring or summer.

In the future, pedestrian improvements may also take place at the Broad Street crossing (by the Levee Street Depot).
