City Council Bay View Nursing Site

The Red Wing City Council last Monday voted to deny by a 4-3 vote a Comprehensive Plan Map amendment at the former Bay View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center site, which would have changed the site's planned use from Public/Semi-Public to High-Density Residential.

A supermajority (5 votes) was required to approve the motion.

Council members Goggin, Lambert, and Norton dissented.

Because the motion failed, the Council did not vote to rezone the site to RM-3 High-Density Multifamily Residential, and the site will remain at its current zoning category, R-2.

Such projects always seem to bring up a lot of questions about what the community actually needs and how the site will be managed long-term.
