Due to an Air Quality Alert posted by MN Pollution Control Agency, no activations of burning permits will be allowed today through Thursday evening.
The Red Wing Fire Department says campfires are allowed, but highly discouraged.
The alert is expected to expire Thursday after midnight. Unless the alert is extended, regular permit burning will resume again Friday morning at 8 am.
The air quality alert is being issued due to wildfire smoke for southern, east central, and NE Minnesota.
Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
